International Museum Day

On International Museum Day, Benha National University joins the global celebration of museums as custodians of human history and culture, preserving the stories of peoples and civilizations for future generations.

Egypt’s museums offer a remarkable testament to the depth and continuity of one of the world’s oldest civilizations. Their collections of rare artifacts and historical treasures reflect a heritage spanning thousands of years and continue to underscore Egypt’s distinguished place on the world’s cultural map.

Among the country’s most prominent museums are:

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), the largest museum in the world devoted to a single civilization, which brings together the complete treasures of Tutankhamun alongside the monumental statue of Ramses II within a world-class cultural destination.

The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC), the first museum in the Arab world to present a comprehensive narrative of Egyptian civilization from prehistoric times to the present day, including the celebrated Royal Mummies Hall.

The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, the oldest archaeological museum in the Middle East and home to thousands of exceptional artifacts documenting the history of ancient Egypt.

The Museum of Islamic Art, one of the world’s foremost institutions dedicated to Islamic heritage, with outstanding collections of manuscripts, artifacts, and decorative arts.

The Coptic Museum, located in Old Cairo’s Religious Complex and housing the most extensive collection of Coptic antiquities in the world.

The Royal Carriages Museum, one of the few museums globally dedicated to royal transport and ceremonial collections from Egypt’s royal era.

Sharm El-Sheikh Museum, the first antiquities museum in South Sinai, showcasing the richness and diversity of Egypt’s cultural heritage across successive eras.

The Grand Egyptian Museum stands as one of Egypt’s most significant contemporary cultural achievements. Its landmark inauguration, attended by His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and numerous heads of state and international leaders, reflected Egypt’s enduring commitment to preserving its heritage and presenting its civilizational legacy on the global stage. Benha National University believes that fostering young people’s appreciation of Egypt’s history and rich cultural heritage is essential to strengthening national identity and a lasting sense of pride and belonging.

Museums are more than repositories of artifacts; they are living bridges between past and present, preserving the memory of nations and inspiring future generations.
