Benha National University has achieved a new distinction in engineering competitions, with the Survivals team from the Faculty of Engineering securing fourth place in the Innovative Bridge Competition 2026 (IBC 2026), organised by the Faculty of Engineering in Shoubra, Benha University. The competition brought together 18 teams representing 11 Egyptian universities, in a highly competitive field that showcased a strong level of creativity, innovation, and engineering expertise among the participating students.
The achievement was recognised in the presence of Prof. Gamal El-Saeed, Chair of Benha National University’s Board of Trustees; Prof. Tamer Samir, President of Benha National University; Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University; and Prof. Mohamed Saeed, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering in Shoubra. The winning teams were honoured during the ceremony. The competition was named after the late Prof. Ibrahim Shaaban in recognition of his contributions to the field of civil engineering.
The Survivals project focused on the design of a truss bridge. The team applied engineering principles to develop a model that combined structural efficiency with an innovative design, demonstrating the students’ ability to address engineering challenges and translate theoretical concepts into practical applications in accordance with established technical and engineering standards.
The competition featured strong competition among the participating teams, with students presenting a range of engineering models. The projects were evaluated by a specialised judging panel comprising leading civil engineering academics from several Egyptian universities. The assessment covered design quality, efficiency, innovation, and the extent to which the submitted models met the competition’s specified requirements.
The Survivals team comprises Farah Mohamed El-Bahteety, Yara Mostafa Abdel-Fattah, Hana Fekry Abdel-Rahman, Youssef Ali Mostafa Mohamed, and Ziad Mahmoud Saeed, under the supervision of Eng. Mai Salah El-Din and Dr. Dina El-Naggar. Throughout the project, the team demonstrated a strong spirit of collaboration and teamwork, as well as the ability to apply engineering knowledge to address design challenges.
Benha National University extends its sincere congratulations to the Survivals team and the project supervisors on this distinguished achievement, commending their outstanding performance as a reflection of the capabilities and achievements of the Faculty of Engineering students in scientific and applied fields. The University reaffirmed its continued commitment to supporting high-achieving students and encouraging their participation in scientific and engineering competitions and events, contributing to the development of their skills and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
This achievement further demonstrates the ability of Benha National University’s Faculty of Engineering students to compete in engineering competitions and translate academic knowledge into practical solutions and engineering models, contributing to the preparation of a generation of engineers equipped to innovate, compete, and shape the future.
